About Bristol
Bristol grew from the Saxon settlement of Brycgstow into one of England's great ports, trading in wine and tobacco and playing a major part in the transatlantic slave trade. John Cabot sailed from Bristol to North America in 1497.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel left his mark with the SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Concorde was built at nearby Filton, and today Bristol is known for aerospace, creative industries and street art.
