About Coventry
Coventry was a prosperous medieval cloth city, and the legend of Lady Godiva riding through its streets dates from the 11th century. It became a centre of bicycle and then car making.
The city centre and its cathedral were destroyed by bombing in November 1940. A new cathedral by Basil Spence opened beside the ruins in 1962. Coventry was UK City of Culture in 2021.
