About Hull
Hull, properly Kingston upon Hull, was bought by King Edward I in 1293 and named the "King's town". In 1642 the town refused entry to King Charles I, one of the first acts of the English Civil War.
William Wilberforce, who led the campaign to abolish the slave trade, was born here. Hull was UK City of Culture in 2017.
