About Stoke-on-Trent
Stoke-on-Trent is known as The Potteries. Josiah Wedgwood opened his Etruria works here in 1769, and firms such as Spode and Royal Doulton made it the centre of the British ceramics industry.
The city was formed in 1910 when six towns joined together. Some of the old brick bottle kilns still stand.
